Care of the wound
The recovery time after nasal surgery can be fast or slow depending on the individual’s constitution and postoperative care. Therefore, it is important to refer to the following tips to ensure the best recovery of the nose.
Upon discharge, you will be provided with a care package by the staff at Worldwide Cosmetic Hospital, which includes:
Home care product kit:
- Postoperative self-care instructions.
- Povidine, saline solution.
- Bandages, medical gauze.
Instructions for self-care of the wound at home:
- Cleaning: Avoid direct contact of the surgical wound with water in the first 3 days, then you can shower normally. Maintain this habit for 3 weeks.
- Medication application: Apply Povidine to the surgical wound and rinse with saline solution using dry gauze about 2 times a day in the morning and evening.
- Mouthwash and gargle every 2 hours with Betadine or Eludril solution…
- Avoid steam for at least 4 weeks after surgery.
Follow-up appointment
Recovery process:
- Swelling duration varies for each individual: 5 – 15 days.
- Improvement after 1 month, 3 months, completely normal after 6 months.
- Removal of drainage tubes and packing after 24-48 hours. Remove nasal splints after 5-7 days.
Follow-up appointments according to the doctor’s schedule:
- Follow-up the day after surgery.
- Stitch removal after 10 – 14 days.
- If any abnormalities occur after 7 days (excessive redness and swelling at the tip of the nose, high fever, fresh bleeding from the nose), you must immediately visit the hospital for examination.
Physical activity
Recommended:
- Apply cold compress (15 minutes/ 4 – 6 times/ 01 day in the first 05 days) to reduce swelling and bruising.
- Wear a mask, hat to protect from the sun when going outside.
- Sleep in a straight position for about 3 – 4 weeks to stabilize the nose shape and strengthen the connective tissues.
- After 2 weeks, gentle exercises can be started.
- After 2 – 3 months, vigorous physical activities such as running, volleyball, badminton, etc., can be played.
Not recommended:
- Remove splints/ shaping materials on the nose without the doctor’s recommendation.
- First 02 weeks: no exercise, no wearing glasses, no heavy lifting.
- Do not wear glasses, do not engage in sports for at least 4 weeks.
- Avoid strong impacts to the nose.
Nutrition and medication
Recommended:
- Drink plenty of water (02 liters/ day).
- Green vegetables that are high in fiber, fruits and foods rich in vitamin A, C, E such as green leafy vegetables, carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, water spinach, animal liver, etc.
- Eat foods that help heal wounds quickly such as steamed/ boiled lean pork, freshwater fish, etc.
- Drink unsweetened fresh milk.
- Take medication as prescribed by the doctor.
Not recommended:
- Consume alcohol, tobacco for about 05 weeks, and seafood for about 03 months.
- Fatty foods, spicy foods, sticky rice, seafood, etc.
- Limit the consumption of starch in the diet, do not consume more than 200g of starch per day.
- Avoid foods that are easy to cause pus and leave scars such as water spinach, beef.
- Avoid eating chicken, foods high in cholesterol, and soy sauce for about 1 month.
- Limit consumption of coffee, tea, pennywort juice, coconut water, beverages with stimulants or sour taste.
- Avoiding fermented foods such as salted eggplant and pickled cucumbers is recommended as they are difficult to digest, leading to slower recovery of the body.
